Define the Word 'Dystopia': 

Is a imaginary community or society that is known for being a bad place to live or be in, everything in this community/place tends goes wrong. Everyone in this society is normally always frighten or on edge.

Find the meanings for these following words:

Jovial:

Is when someone is in a happy/bubble mood and is always somewhat approachable.  

Profusely: 
To be in a large amounts to mean a lot more.

Paraphernalia:
Used in terms for drugs and the other equipment made for drug use.

Interminably:
A rambling noise that goes on and on and is annoying and boring.

Petulanty:
Being rude and child like.

• Read through a short story 'The Lottery" and Answer some questions:

1. Describe the setting, using specific details from the story in your answer. 


It was a full-summer day, Where in the heart of the town the square the family, started to gather like  as if it was a happy gathering  and it was a normal day but with unease in the backs of their minds.

2. Explain the feelings of most people in town toward the lottery.


Most of them had unease and fear but knew this was a normal part of life for them all.

3. What evidence is there that the lottery has been going on for a long time? 

The Black box had to be remade through time with some of the original box made into it. From past stories and also it use to have wooden slips now they have to use paper as there are more people in the town since when this was first started. Old man warner is the oldest in the town and he had to use a stool for the new box which was remade before he was born.

4. What is Old Man Warner’s attitude about those who would like to change  things? 


He did not like change and thinks other people do not understand this.

5. Explain how the lottery works. 

Each person had there name in the box, What ever family's name comes out each of them have to
re-draw and who ever's name has a black spot on it are the person who gets stoned by the village

6. In what way is the title, “The Lottery”, misleading?  Why would the author  want to trick the reader by having a misleading title?

As our generation knows a lottery we think of a good prize being won.
An author could use this to trick us as most people love a lottery and winning a prize, but we all in this generation would not like to hear about horrible death in an outrageous and sick way.

Why do you think this is an Dystopian story? Does it remind you of any others?


This is a Dystopian story as people are scared and living in a hateful way and doing harm to others

Simile or Metaphor Bliss

Write a poem or song that describes a person. It should be at least ten lines and use only similes or metaphors. 

His eyes sparkle so bright, like stars shining in the sky = His eyes are so beautiful and charming you could notice them for a mile away. I choose stars because of how bright and shiny they can be.

Our friendship is like a brick wall, Strong and supportive = Nothing is gonna stop anything from ruining our friendship. I choose a brick wall because it is one of the most common and strong material that you build with. I could of said metal but every friendship has its up and downs l like bricks is can be broken down but always build back up.

His hair is as thin as a sheet of paper = Basically means his hair is really thin but in a good way like i'm jealous his hair is that thin.

His personality is as sweet as a piece of candy = Meaning he is so sweet its unbelievable, His personality is the equivalent to sugar basically. I said candy because it is mostly made out of sugar and sugar is sweet.

He is as tall as a basketball hoop = meaning he is quite tall and I said a basketball hoop because they are normally around 6 to 7ft which is pretty tall.

His teeth whiter than white out it self = Meaning his teeth are pretty white and clean. I said white out because it was the first thing that came to mind and it is also pretty white and clean.

His smile is as charming as a bunch of flowers = Meaning his smile is like flowers so beautiful and sweet, his never fails to make you happy when you see it. I choose flowers because nearly everyone likes flowers, flowers also it makes a lot of people happy just by the presence of them.

He is as adorable as a baby panda = Meaning he is really adorable and can be the equivalent of a baby panda. I choose a panda because they are the most cute and cuddly animals I know.

He is as fast as the flash = Meaning he is extremely fast and I said the flash because he is one of the fastest superheros.

He is as caring as a koala = Meaning he is super caring no mater what he will always care till the day he dies. I said koala's because in my opinion they are the most caring and loving animal ever.

Setting The Situation:

Part 1- Think a normal everyday situation where you are trying to get somewhere e.g getting to the bathroom, arriving to class, running to the bus stop. 

Aim: Getting to school

Part 2- Brainstorm all 10 things that could stop you getting there- make it crazy but believable.

1. Road/street blocked off

2. Ambulance/Someone getting hurt

3. Old person crossing the road

4. Car broke down

5. Traffic 

6. Fire 

7. Robbery

8. Ran out of petrol for the car

9. Having to help out with someone who has dropped all their grocery's  

10. Helping a animal of any choice cross the road without getting ran over.

Part 3-Select 5 of these, put them in order. Where are you starting? Where are you going? Write a couple of building sentences. 

On my way to school just about to leave the house to get in the car I see a group of ducklings crossing the road. But there was on way traffic coming so I quickly ran as fast as the flash to slow down the traffic so they could get over safely. After stressing for around 5 to 10 minutes they were all over safe and sound no injuries. Finally getting in the car realizing my Mum forgot to get gas so now panic starts to kick in because I have to walk all the way to school. I drag myself and walk all the way to the end of the street. I walk all the way near one of my local super markets I see this really old nice lady walking across the road. So I thought I would do a good deed and help you across the road. After helping her I continue walking at this point I forcing my legs to move as you can probably tell I don't normally walk unless I completely need to. Only a block left and I at school well that's what I thought until I saw a sign saying the street is blocked off. So I had to walked through a little creepy alley way and right art the end of that was my school. While I was walking I passed a nice man that had a lot of grocery's he accidentally fell and tripped I felt so bad so I help him pick all the things he dropped. After all them incidences I was finally at school I may have been 30 minutes late but I mean now I have a funny and good story to tell.

Marie Curie: 

What are they famous for?

Marie Curie is famous for discovering radiation/radium and how it works and also what effects it has. Marie was also part inventor of X-rays along side German scientist Wilhelm Roentgen in 1885. Marie Curie was the the first woman to win a Noble Prize. Adding to her first win in physics, she later earned one in chemistry, making her the first person to claim Noble honors twice.

 

Basic Information:

Marie is a youngest out of 5 kids she has three older sisters and one older brother. Growing up her parents always wanted their girls to succeed and be as good as their older brother. Sadly when Marie was 15 her mother sadly passed away due to tuberculosis. Ever since that day Marie was been using her mothers death as a blessing and wanted to do her mother proud by doing her best in school and completing her dreams/goals. A few years later Marie was able to join a university that allowed girls, at the age of 17 moving away just to be able to attend a university was pretty scary for her. She had her doubts about it but once giving it her best ability she was accepted. The teachers that taught her were impressed of the skill and knowledge she had. After studying a but more she moved to Paris and was awarded to be professor for Alexandrovitch university. After a few years she meet her long life partner Pierre Curie. They both were scientist and were able to discover radium,radiation and the effects they have. After discovering radium Marie was able to help Wilhelm Rontgen with inventing X-rays.  

What effects did he have on science today?

Well if it wasn't for Marie,Pierre curie and Wilhelm Rontgen a lot of medical scientist/doctors wouldn't have been able to discover anything like broken bones and fluid that may be around bones. Its not like they would have no way to find broken bones it would just be hard for them to see whats actually wrong like if it is dislocated or just broken or even just sprained.

Bottom: Nice crystal clear blue water that looks almost drinkable and that you can see every fish in.  

Middle: A nice steal looking grey can that you can see you're reflection. That have both a cute adorable fluffy hamster and a boring old dark blue umbrella.
