Class Treaty Reflection

 Class Treaty Reflection:

This term in Social Studies we have been learning about the treaty of Waitangi and how it was important.
So we set out a mission for us as a class to make our own treaty and have rules that are fair for everyone involved. We first set off in 3 groups to make our own rules. After listing all the rules in our mini groups we then formed all together to agree on what rules we should make official on our treaty. At first it was a bit crazy and loud with everyone talking over each other so we had to make a plan. We came up with the idea of having a leader and 1 person from each group going over by them self and choice which rules to use or not. After the leaders were done they come over to the rest of the class to see if everyone agreed to the rules. I feel like making this treaty was hard at first but after making a plan it was really easy and i'm happy everyone agreed and was fine with the rules.

Tangaroa:

Tangaroa: In Māori mythology, Tangaroa (also Takaroa) is one of the great gods, the god of the sea. He is a son of Rangi… | Mythological creatures, World mythology, Mythology

Tangaroa is the ‘God of the Sea” Maori, Polynesian people and their ancestors lived close to the sea and relied on it for food and other resources. Maori believe that water is an energy because of  its many different moods that change frequently. The sea has many different spiritual importances too for example the sea is where life started like fish. Fish then started to evolve into humans and amphibians “things that can live both on water and land”. Tangaroa is the son of Papatuanuku ‘The earth mother’ and Ranginui ‘The sky father’.  With some stories it is said that Tangaroa is husband to Papatuanuku and Rivil to Ranginui.

Know Your Place:

 Know Your Place:

In Social Studies we were asked to make a prezi answering questions that were about Christchurch and Canterbury. The reason for this was for us to one use a new app/thing to create and share our work which was prezi and two learn a bit more about Christchurch and Canterbury. I was sadly away for the first lesson so I started later hints why I did a lot less work than others in the class. I was able to answer 4 questions, I tried my best to make it look good and I tired to list as much information as I could.

My Prezi

Prezi

I learnt many different origins for south island city's, for example I learnt that Canterbury is named after the ecclesiastical mother. The most interesting thing I learnt/researched was Hornby High's history and how it started. I think next time I really could of used the app prezi more and add things like pictures and other cool things to make it look more appealing.

Agriculture Time line:

Agriculture Essay:

Agriculture Essay:

Farming today and in the 10,000BC are very different technology wise. Since then a lot of things have changed and has improved the way farmers produce food. Agriculture is a topic that is about the revolution of farming and how things have changed/improved throughout the years. Around 12000 years ago a lot of the equipment used was good but not as efficient like the old tools took more energy and effort than the machinery nowadays.

Machinery nowadays is completely different and more efficient than back in the day. People really don’t realise how lucky and well off we have it now with farming machinery. Back in 10,000BC you had to manually do things and it took a lot more effort. This matters because it’s crazy to think how much things have changed and how it has improved the world. Because if we didn’t have the advanced technology we have things would take longer and the amount of people being fed would decrease dramatically. For example in the U.S on famer is able to feed 155 people a day but back in around 1960s one famer could only feed 26. I could only imagine what it was like earlier than that, but it is a privilege and a blessing we have evolved and made farming better and more efficient.

A Plow or Plough depending on how you want to spell it is a tool that has been used for many many years. A plow is a tool/technology that helps turn and soften soil up ready for seeds to be planting. The evolution of the plow is quite impressive because the first and earliest plow was made out of digging sticks fashioned with handles for pushing and pulling dirt to soften. By roman times light wheeless plows with iron blades were made for the topsoil of the Mediterranean region but could not handle the heavier soil for other places/regions like the northwestern of europe. Around the 18th the addition of the moleboard which is a more advanced plow was made which you could already guess the impact that made to the farming industry. In the mid 19th the black prairie soil was really testing the strength and power of the original plow which made many think of making a more advanced one. American mechanic John Deere finally made the all steel moleboard, the new moleboard had a lot more advantages than the old one. The molebaord was a three wheeled plow that is powered by a gasoline engine. With this new piece of machinery/equipment it has made farming a lot better. The new advanced plow has made farming more productive and efficient than having to do it manually.

Now onto the sickle, the sickle is a tool that is used to harvest crops like corn and many other things. The sickle is one of the most ancient tools to exist and many still to this day use it. The many reasons for that is because it's more affordable but the only downside is that it takes a lot more effort and time to harvest. The sickle is a long sharp blade hooked fitted with a handle if it makes it any easier to imagine in your head it looks a lot like the reapers sword. The Sickle can go back to times that pre-date the Neolithic Era (18000-8000 BC). As years went on many different types of sickles were made with small adjustments to them like the change in what the sword/blade was made out of and the design of it. But in 1825 in Scotland an inventor reverend Patrick Bell’s design of the reaper machine. The reaper machine is still used to this day and is basically the same as a sickle but is a lot bigger and pushed by horses. By 1860 the combined machine was made exactly like the reaper machine but took a lot more power and effort to run which meant more horses were needed. As the years went on the combined machine was re-made with the same concept but built in a way that is more convenient and efficient. Around the 1980s electronics were put into the mix of the combined harvester which meant they could finally put an engine and make the machine a lot more powerful and efficient. As you could imagine when the first engine powered combined harvester was made a lot of people would have been happy and it would have helped the farming industry dramatically. It also would have made them a lot of money with the amount of crops they were planting and harvesting.

I would say it's pretty incredible with what we can accomplish now then what we could back in the day. I feel like we really take for granted what we have and that we should really look at things we have as a blessing. It's really cool to think about how technology can help and how it has impacted the world in many ways like farming ect.

lawyer Paragraph 2

lawyer Paragraph 2:

Cellphones have a negative effect on many teen's in today's worlds and time. The main reasons for teen's to be addicted to their phones is social media. Kid's these days feel like it's a necessity to always check up on social media to see how others are going. I feel like teen's need to really get a life and realise social media isn't always the way to go. Teen's also fee like they can't have fun without technology which is completely untrue. Next is the amount of time teen's spend on their phones its really ridiculous. I honestly can't understand how people can spend 90% of their day on technology. I personally can't spend more than a few hours a day on technology. Teen's need to understand it not healthy to spend long periods of time on technology. The last thing is the effects technology has on people/teen's. The amount of depression has increase is concerning. Most kids with depression spend so much time on technology. Another effect is technology can harm your eyes and can make you blind depending on how long you spend on it. Overall technology is bad because of how addicting it can be. I really hope teen's realise that it isn't the best to spend long periods of time on it.

Lawer's paragraph: Technology

Technology has changed throughout the years and has made a big impact and help to the world. It matters because if the evolution of technology didn’t happen or upgrade normal tasks will take forever to complete. For example farming, farming nowadays takes barely any time because of the big machinery/technology that is made. Back in the day farmers were forced to do everything by hand since there was nothing made. Another thing is phones back in the day phones ended up taking so long to charge and was super heavy. Nowadays phones aren’t as heavy and can take less than an hour to charge. One last point is transport, back in the day’s people used to have to walk everywhere or ride on horse’s which isn’t the best for them. Horses take a lot to look after and with them walking hours and hours every day it would just completely exhaust them. Now we have cars, planes and etc, which makes it easier to get around. It helps nowadays to have cars, planes and so on because it helps people get places faster and is very reliable. These three things help society nowadays because technology now is more reliable and more trustworthy compared to technology back in the day. All technologies listed have improved and impacted our lives without us even releasing. If they weren't invented life tasks would take forever to accomplish.

Matariki Vs Boxing day:

Matariki Vs Boxing day:

What went well and why?
What went well was searching up and gathering information because it was pretty easy to find and understand everything.

What didn't go so well and why?
I personally think the way I set out everything on my poster I feel like it could of been presented better if given more time.

If you were to do this again what would you do different and why?
Well I would set my poster out a bit better and plan where i'm putting everything before hand instead of just starting.

Question 4 link:

Question 5 link:

Question 6 link:

What went well and why:
What went well was how many websites that had the information required were available for me. All the information was easy for me to understand and reword to put in my poster.

What didn't go so well and why?
That hard bit was I wasn't able to find a person's story that I could use in the poster. I tried looking for a refugees story but I was unsuccessful.

If you were to do this again what would you do differently and why?
I think I would pick a different country so I am able to get a refugees story since I had trouble with finding a Syrian one.

Social Studies:

In social studies we were asked to make a Lawyer paragraph to explain how Iqbal lost him Human Rights and how Hussain Khan used indentured labor with using Economics.

Red: State you're Point.
Light blue: Why does it matter.
Green: Evidence.
Yellow: Sum up.
How Iqbal Lost His Human Rights:

Iqbal’s Human Rights were quickly taken away from him at the age of 4
and he was placed into Bonded Labor.

This is important because since he was in Bonded Labor he was not able
to get an education and be social with other kids his age.

Iqbal was forced into Bonded labor because his father owed money.

The only way they could pay it off is if they were all slaves helping Hussian
Khan their “Master”.

Iqbal would have to work everyday non-stop with only one break a day at lunch.

That meant with no education Iqbal barely knew how to write and read.

Which in my opinion every kid no matter what should have the right to an
education.

Because of these reasons listed above is why Iqbal’s Human Rights were
taken away from him which is completely wrong.

Economic: Using the concept Economics, write a paragraph explaining why Hussain Khan used indentured labor.

Hussain Khan would force slaves (People who owed money and couldn’t pay it off)
to work for him.

Hussain Khan would make so much money for using people against their
rights/will to work so they can pay off money that they owned.

This matters because children the age of 3 or 4 up were forced to make carpets
and work just for what their parents did.

Young children that can’t even speak are having to do adults work
like making carpets.

This isn’t right because they didn’t have the rights to an equation and even
worse they didn't have the rights to have fun like other kids their age.

There was this kid called Iqbal, he was forced into slavery at the age of
4 because of his dad that owned money.

Iqbal was assassinated in Lahore by a couple of others by someone
believed to be a feudal landlord and carpet manufacturer.

Before Iqbal was murdered he tried multiple times to speak up on what
he believed in and even now people still think that was the reason he was
killed but no one knows for sure.

In my opinion Hussain Khan took advantage of other people's family debt
and used it to make money for himself.

Social Studies

Spirituals Songs:

In social studies we learnt about Spirituals Songs and why slaves used while working. Slaves back in the day would make up songs and used them to help motivate each other to keep working. Because back in the day Slave would have to work all day no matter what to till the sun goes down. Nearly  every song has a story/hidden meaning behind them. The songs that the slaves would make up was mainly about finding a way to escape/having freedom.

Human Rights:

Human Rights:

Today in Social Studies we were asked to make some sort of poster with a list of 30 human rights. Keep in mind we only had one class to do this. Here's my work.
